Science Olympiad Foundations

Archived program format

An introduction to Science Olympiad format, event categories, and study strategies. This archived program was designed for students joining a team for the first time and was offered as a group class or online one-on-one tutoring.

Which events did these archived programs cover?
The archived program included Trajectory, Scrambler, Elastic Launched Glider, Astronomy, Fermi Questions, and Experimental Design. The events catalog remains available as a reference to the topics previously covered.
When did students typically begin preparing?
Students who already knew their events typically began in September or October. Earlier season-planning sessions were used to choose events and establish a preparation timeline.
Did the program support Division B and Division C students?
Yes. The previous coaching approach adapted event rules, difficulty, and competition format for Division B and Division C students.
Were sessions designed for individuals or teams?
The former program supported individual students and competition partners. Build-event sessions often worked with the actual partner team, while study-event preparation was frequently individual.
How many sessions were typical?
Build-event students commonly completed 4–8 sessions across a season, progressing from physics and design to calibration and data review. Study-event schedules varied with prior knowledge.
